Once a year in the first two weeks of April the annual Fallow deer Rut happens. Here is the opportunity to grab a rack of antlers and go out and call a stag in to an ambush. The object is to hunt two up and have one rattling the antlers while the other shoots. Read the full story HERE.

Bow hunting walk and stalk has always and will always be the ultimate challenge in hunting. Over the years of hunting this way in the Eastern Cape I have successfully bagged a lot of animals. One however has been eluding me all the time...

An East Cape Fallow
Every hunter knows this Fallow, some have dined and wined on him, spoken of him around the campfire, some have locked horns with him and other have just enjoyed his company. In all my years of bowhunting, my most memorable experience has been hunting Fallow Deer, to me, the gentleman of buck.

The Blue Bull


The Blue Bull
The bull shows himself for the first time about 150m from where I stand hidden in the shade of some short Acacias. He is heading to my left and I’m sure he will head for the furthest part of the dam in front of me. That leaves me with about 18m to cover plus a crawl up the 3m high earthen damwall. I move the moment he disappears behind a bush, crouching down and checking that the arrow is properly nocked , slider sight set to 24m.
